Composed of correspondence, maps, memoranda, logbooks, photographs, negatives, audio tapes, documents and artifacts. All together they describe the history of Air America from its early beginings as Civil Air Transport, purchased by the Central Intelligence Agency, to its final days as Air America. Included are taped interviews by former Air America employees, transcribed interviews, court documents relating to the crash of Civil Air Transport's Boeing 727, and legal documents relating to employees receiving status as civil service employees because of the CIA's ownership of Air America.

William M. Leary was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1934. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War, and was stationed at Kadena, Japan where he worked in operations. After leaving the Air Force, he attended college at Princeton University where he received his Ph.D. in American History. Dr. Leary taught at Princeton Universityk San Diego University, and The University of Victoria (Canada) before joining the faculty at the University of Georgia at Athens where he worked for thirty-two year...
